XtoCC App Reviews

Absolutely doesnt work

Doesnt support merged clips, "asks" you to break them down one by one, and once you do (which is a nightmare and very long), and you export your XML, it simply asks yoy to zip and email your XML file to their tech support to help improve their software. 40$ in the toilet and still stuck with my problem...

Sort of works...

As promised, this app DOES convert clips in a FCPX timeline into FCP7. BUT what they dont tell you is that upon translation youll have to manually reset all your fonts, your text size & spacing, and the size & placement of all your clips. All it really does is maintain the TIMING of your edits. Thats it. Frankly, my time is better spent re-cutting the entire project than using this app. Very very disappointed.

Does exactly what its supposed to!!

This program is incredibly easy to use and does exactly what it is supposed to. I took a couple of 90 min rough cuts and converted them for use in Final Cut Pro 7 within minutes. Fantastic.

Works fro import to Premiere Pro!

I was thinking this app was only for FCP7. Premiere Pro imported the XML from Xto7 perfectly and even re-linked all my source files. It will help my workflow and save time and hard drive space.

Does not do what it advertises it does!

I give this app 1 star. I bought it with the intent to convert my FCPX project to an Adobe Premier project. I understand that it converts the FCPX XML file into a readable XML for other NLE’s, however it jacks it up pretty bad. The project was not at all the same. I should have just bit the bullet and edited my clients project in Premier, eewww. This was a waste of $50, and I am filing for a refund!

Enables FCPX as a Great Workflow Tool!

This program gives me the ability to now use FCPX as a workflow tool for FCP7. Frequently clients hand me entire hard drives fuil of folders upon folders. FCPX can easily import that entire drive and place all of teh contents onto one timeline (Project). I can then view all of the media on the drive, and edit it down to selects. This app allows me to then pull my work from FCPX back into FCP7 for finishing. (Sorry FCPX, youre just not there yet.)

useful down the road, but will not work for what i bought it for

I was hoping I could use it to export 3D segments I made in FCPX and be able to add some final touches in FCP7, but it gives me an error referencing bundled clips and tells me I need to unbunde clips first, but that is the 3d nested clip and undoing it would destory the sequence. Oh, well. It works well for 2d "normal" projects

Still needs some work

Its a pretty basic tool. If you happen to have just the right type of media and timeline, you may get through the conversion with very little carnage. But I tried a project with a mix of 7 different formats. I put them all in the main storyline. No overlaps. No transitions. No effects. And once I got it into FCP 7, the in and out points were all over the place. Some clips simply reset to the beginning of the media, instead of the designated ins and outs Id set. Some clips appeared way down the time line after 18 minutes of blank. I used a mix of file- and tape-based formats: RED (transcoded to 422), GoPro, 5D, 7D, NTSC-DV, Stills, Music. I did this test because thats the type of media included in the documentary Im working on. I think for the time being, this tool wont work for me. I expect it to improve though. It seems like theyre constantly working on it.

Didnt work

Will be asking for a refund. $50 is a lot for a maybe.

Very Lacking

Ive tried version 1.1.2 every which way, and it doesnt work for me AT ALL. The previous update was so buggy the developer actually recommended you not download it. I am back to using a version from 2 updates ago, which sort of works for video, but leaves important information like speed changes completely out, which is to say nothing of Audio, which creates some sort of unholy mess, requiring me to resort to a multi-channel QT workaround for that. Cmon you guys. Quit making updates that dont work. Apple hasnt updated FCP X in months so theres no good excuse for this. Im glad it exists but Im not glad I paid $50 with this inadequate support.

Almost.

If you want to use a Final Cut Pro X project, in soundtrack pro, color or really any program that imports fcp7xml this program is great, well except if you want to use it in FCP7... it is very lacking in what gets transfered over. (which they polietly tell you in Xto7 support PDF but not here on the main page. (i think they know the product is slightly weak sauce, and dont want to announce it on the main page) Im sure this program was complicated to make, but if youre goal is to edit in FCP 7 after working in X this is greatly over priced, and might not actually save you that much time, when rebuilding your project in 7.

Didnt work

Premier Pro CS6 will not open the converted XML file. Wasted $50

DOES NOT WORK

When it actually manages to make a new XMP neither FCP or Adobe Premire Pro can Read it. it just makes useless files. there needs to be an update!

FAIL.

Just tried converting a FinalCut X XML from a 4k Edit to go into a DaVinci/Scratch for color correction/grading and there was an error because Final Cut 7 cant deal with 4k files. RAGE.

FAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This app just cost us 2-days of editing because they hid the fact that the app FAILS when converting from FC Pro direct into Premiere Pro. We should charge them 2-days of our editing day rate!!! They say right in the first few lines of this page- "Your Final Cut Pro XML Sequence is ready for Premiere Pro…" NOT!!!!!!!!!!! They bury the fact that going from your Final Cut Pro XML file into Premiere with this app will cause it to fail, Fail, FAIL!!!!!!!!! Then to get ANY help FORGET IT!!!!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS it is a POS!!!!!!!!!!

Exactly what we need

We needed a way to get OMF from FCPX to an older version of Nuendo for post audio work. Xto7 is working flawlessly, and much faster than I expected it to. This $50 investment was looking like the only alternative to the purchase of a new computer and expensive software and plugins upgrade that functionally, we didnt need and couldnt afford. Workflow is simple: Export FCPX project to XML, open that XML in FCP7, export OMF. Beautiful. My only issue is that I have to close v.X to open v.7, but everything works so quickly I can take a little break during the OMF export and reopening FCPX.

Did what I needed to do

I was under the impression that it was impossible to go from X to 7 until I heard about this tool. It quite simply worked and allowed us to avoid manually recreating work started in X. Good deal.

Not a tool to smoothly go back to FCP 7

First of all, keep in mind that this app only translates your sequences (projects in FCP X.) And imperfectly at that - you lose all your transitions, effects, distortion, crop, and color adjustments, and more - this is even when the app works flawlessly as intended. But the rest of your project - your bins (Smart Collections or Keyword Collections in FCP X), markers, everything you used to make your timelines - that is all still marooned in FCP X. Im hopeful for more robust behavior from future updates. Right now, as far as I can tell, this app is the only game in town for what it does.

Very limited

Only bought this to get audio into an editor. More trouble than what it is worth. Looking into getting my money back.

FAIL, I wish I could get my money back

I understand it is a small company. I get it. But it seems irresponsible to charge $50 for a convertion software if you can’t get ANY support. This simply doesn’t work. I downloaded last night. waste of $50. I want to contact them, but there is no way. There is nowhere to make a claim. I may call my credit card and cancel the charge, they leave me no other resourse to fix the problem. I should have read all the other reviews.
